The Airborne Combat Vehicle 4th model (BMD-4M) is not suitable for the needs of the Russian army, so Rosoboronexport seeks to find foreign buyers for it. This is written by military expert Peter Suchiu in the article "The New Russian Airborne Combat Vehicle BMD-4M Received Unsatisfactory Reviews" for The National Interest publication.
In the USSR, airborne armored vehicles were developed. Instead of parachuting separately or delivering vehicles on gliders, the crew remained in the vehicles when they were dropped from a cargo plane!
After landing, the crew removes the parachute, checks the armored vehicles for damage and proceeds to the location for combat missions. "On paper, this sounds quite effective", the expert noted.
The BMD-4M is built on the basis of the BMD-3. The latest version of the combat vehicle features an improved engine and chassis, and is armed with the Bakhcha-U combat module.
Rosoboronexport is now actively promoting the capabilities of the BMD-4M to attract foreign buyers. These combat vehicles solve a problem that the Russian army has never faced. Dropping lightly armored vehicles behind enemy lines can't achieve much. Russia realized that it produces weapons that are not suitable for its needs and wants to pass it on to someone else!
