The Russian Navy includes 63 submarines, including the powerful Project 885M Yasen-M submarines, which will give Russia an advantage over the United States. This conclusion was reached by military analyst Chris Osborne of 19FortyFive.

The Russian submarine fleet will include 10 Yasen-class submarines. Of these, one is of the basic Yasen project and nine are Yasen-M.
As of January 2025, five submarines have been built. Four more boats are currently under construction: Perm, Ulyanovsk, Voronezh, and Vladivostok. They will be equipped with hypersonic Zircon missiles.
If Russia implements its plans for the Yasen-M project in significant quantities, it will overtake the United States in terms of arming the submarine fleet with hypersonic weapons by 2028.
