The Russian Kornet anti-tank missile system (ATGM) remains one of the most effective means against heavy armored vehicles. However, even it has certain flaws, explained military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
He drew attention to the fact that the Kornet has too weak magnification of daytime optics when firing from 5 km and above.
The standard legs of the tripod are not telescopic. The main disease of the machines is backlash in the area of attaching the launcher to the tripod. And even a slight backlash when firing at long range throws the missile strongly.
The Kornet has a weak thermal imager with a target recognition range of no more than 3 km with huge dimensions and a long activation time, as well as a shortage of long-range missiles, including 9M113FM-3.
Another problem is the lack of missiles with an infrared homing head for working from closed firing positions.
On old-style machines, when firing at a range of up to 8 km, the 9M113FM-3 missile often loses the beam and falls due to insufficient power of the laser-beam module.
Earlier, www1.ru reported on the advantages of placing Kornet ATGMs on the upper floors of high-rise buildings.
