АвтоВАЗ выпустит автомобили LADA с ОС «Аврора»

"Aurora Automotive" is already under development, with "Itelma" and "Rostelecom" participating in the project

Representatives of "Open Mobile Platform" at the "Aurora. Own Conference" in Moscow noted that in order for the "Aurora" OS to have not a million users, but a billion, it must be everywhere. In addition to mobile devices, it should be equipped with TVs, cars, routers, desktops. Roman Alyautdin, Director of OS Development at "Open Mobile Platform", said at the conference that a dedicated "Aurora" is already being prepared for Russian cars, and there are plans to adapt it for other devices as well.

Everywhere we interact with the digital environment, with touchscreens, with operating systems, and "Aurora" can be used there. The "Aurora +" program is aimed at expanding the use of "Aurora", and we are, to some extent, repeating the path that Android once took. First it was on smartphones and tablets, then it appeared on watches, TVs, and cars. Apparently, this is a somewhat objective story for any mature, developing technological product, such as the "Aurora" OS.
Roman Alyautdin, Director of OS Development at "Open Mobile Platform"

According to him, "Aurora" is moving forward, and not only in the release of new versions of "Aurora 5.1" and "Aurora 5.2". It is also expanding horizontally, adapting to different customer industries.

We are creating separate branches of our operating system, and together with technological partners, we are modifying its kernel, graphic components, applications, system services, API — everything that is needed to tailor "Aurora" and the technologies we have to a particular niche. Such a branch becomes independent and begins its release cycle. Together with the technology partner, the new device begins a new life. But it is very important that security, technologies, and development tools remain unified. That is, the powerful stream that the main line of "Aurora" development creates also extends to the branches.
Roman Alyautdin, Director of OS Development at "Open Mobile Platform"

Alyautdin noted that the automotive branch of this OS should be expected on the market soon. Not so long ago, at the SPIEF, an agreement was signed on the creation of a new digital environment for the LADA car between AvtoVAZ, "Itelma", "Rostelecom" and "Open Mobile Platform".

Under the "Aurora +" program, we are moving towards the emergence of the automotive "Aurora". AvtoVAZ currently produces more than 500 thousand cars per year, while a modern car is a mobile phone on wheels, as it is connected to the infrastructure. It [while moving] shares information with the city infrastructure, the infrastructure of gas stations, this, of course, becomes part of the digital economy, the data economy. And having domestic technologies, a domestic operating system in the car is our great mission.
Roman Alyautdin, Director of OS Development at "Open Mobile Platform"

He spoke a little about what "Aurora Automotive" would roughly look like. Based on the presentation, it will include everything necessary to support the functions of the car. "Itelma" will provide a modern dashboard, "Rostelecom" will help with the cloud connection of the dashboard and the car's multimedia system, and "Aurora Automotive" will ensure the operation of the car's applications, its service solutions, and will be updated through the LADA online marketplace.

This work [on the automotive version of "Aurora"] has already begun. Of course, a modern car without connection to the infrastructure, both with the application store and with the infrastructure for managing devices inside the car, their operation, is impossible. And we are conducting all this work together with our partners from Rostelecom, Itelma, and, of course, under the leadership of AvtoVAZ. And I very much hope that the hour is not far off when we can get into a car that will not have Android or another foreign operating system, but "Aurora".

However, Alyautdin did not name the approximate date of the appearance of a prototype car with "Aurora Automotive".
