Russia is developing the sixth-generation MiG-41 (PAK DP) stealth interceptor to replace the MiG-31. The aircraft is expected to reach speeds of up to Mach 4, making it one of the fastest in the world. Western experts are skeptical about the Russian project, writes Bulgarian Military.
Equipped with a suite of modern systems, the MiG-41 will intercept hypersonic missiles, use anti-missile lasers, and operate in near space. These capabilities speak to its important role in missile defense and space operations. Future versions of the aircraft may even be unmanned, reflecting Russia's commitment to innovation in autonomous combat systems.
As Bulgarian Military writes, the first prototype should be released in 2025. However, the aircraft is most likely to enter service by the end of the decade.
Western experts have expressed a mixture of skepticism and cautious optimism about the MiG-41. Some analysts point to its breakthrough design. If the stated characteristics can be realized, the MiG-41 could become a formidable interceptor.
Military expert Peter Suciu called the MiG-41 a "fake attempt" by Russia to compete with the next-generation fighters of the United States and China. In his opinion, this is just another propaganda that is far from reality. Suciu doubted that the plane would be able to fly at a speed of Mach 4 for a long time, as this would require a huge amount of fuel. Apparently, the MiG-41 remains an "unfulfilled dream," he concluded.
