The newest Russian suburban diesel train DP2D with push-pull technology, designed for non-electrified railway sections, will run from St. Petersburg in the direction of Ivangorod (Kingisepp Municipal District) in the Leningrad Region. This was announced by Ivan Kolesnikov, Deputy General Director of Russian Railways (OAO "RZD").

DP2D consists of a TEP70BS locomotive and modified electric train cars (built at Transmashholding factories). The electric train can be controlled from the locomotive cab and from the head car, depending on the direction of travel.
DP2D characteristics:
- Track gauge — 1520 mm
- Car body material — structural carbon steel
- Engine type — DGU 2A-9DG-01
- Engine power 2942 kW (4000 hp)
- Maximum speed of rolling stock — 120 km/h.
In June 2026, the RZD press service reported that the DP2D train passed acceptance tests at the Experimental Ring in Shcherbinka and at the test site of the Research Institute of Railway Transport in Belorechensk. The train departed from St. Petersburg to Sortavala for a trial run.
Specialists checked the traction-energy, dynamic-strength, environmental, and other characteristics of the train. Based on the test results, a decision was made to produce an initial series of 30 trains.
