Amidst failures in Yandex services, users may encounter a new threat — fraudulent emails disguised as technical support. Attackers try to intimidate users with data loss and account blocking, and also promise compensation for downtime. Yandex Cloud has published recommendations on how to recognize such messages and protect your data.

One possible scenario is an email demanding urgent account login to restore allegedly corrupted data. In other messages, attackers may promise payment for outages, ask for bank details, or request opening an attachment to transfer data to another platform.

Yandex Cloud emphasizes that the company does not request passwords, two-factor authentication codes, API keys, bank card details, or remote access to devices via email.

To avoid falling for the trick, you need to check the sender's address: the official service domain is @yandex.cloud. At the same time, you should not click on links from suspicious emails or open unknown attachments. Even if a link uses HTTPS, this alone does not guarantee that the site is safe. If in doubt, it is better to independently open the official Yandex Cloud website or console and check the information there.

If data has already been entered on a suspicious site, the company recommends changing the password, ending active sessions, checking mail forwarding rules, and contacting support through the console.

Amidst recovery efforts, the cloud platform itself also has limitations

Creating new resources may be temporarily unavailable. Yandex Cloud also reported that resources that became unavailable due to the failure will not be charged. Balance top-ups are temporarily suspended, but for existing clients, reaching a zero balance should not lead to resource shutdown.
