Russia ranks third in the world in terms of titanium reserves — a strategic metal for aviation, space, and medicine. The country's subsoil contains 597 million tons. China and Australia share the first two places, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources.

By the end of 2026, Russian companies expect an increase of 165 thousand tons through geological exploration. 344.1 million rubles of private investment will be directed towards prospecting for the metal. Last year, France increased its import of Russian titanium to a historical maximum — 129.9 million euros against 108.6 million a year earlier. India increased purchases almost fivefold, to 8.2 million dollars.

Russia is among the top three in terms of reserves, but in-situ reserves are not equal to finished products. For the metal to become aircraft parts or implants, domestic production chains are needed. The growth in purchases from France and India shows that there is demand for Russian titanium. The question is how much added value will remain in Russia.
