Russian Railways (RZD) observes significant interest in quantum communications and is preparing for concrete implementations. The technology protects data transmission, and the holding company is already working with telecom operators, fintech, and fuel and energy complex enterprises, TASS reported.

The length of the main quantum network by the end of 2025 will be 7,858 km. This is enough to stretch a line from Moscow to Vladivostok and back. The holding company updated the roadmap for "Quantum Communications" until 2030 together with relevant ministries and the scientific community. The tasks are to build infrastructure, expand geography, and launch services based on it.
Quantum communications do not just encrypt data, but change the key at any attempt to intercept. For RZD, this is protection of transportation management; for fintech, it is payment protection; for energy, it is telemetry. If the implementation goes according to plan, Russia will get a national network that cannot be secretly eavesdropped on. For the market, this is a signal: the technology is moving from laboratories into commercial infrastructure.
