Starting December 1, 2026, Russian Railways will change the procedure for refunding tickets for long-distance trains. Instead of a fixed fee of 3.70 rubles, the carrier will introduce a progressive scale tied to the fare and the time remaining until the train's departure.

The minimum fee will be 1% when returning a ticket 45 days or more in advance. If a ticket is returned 30–44 days in advance, the passenger will pay 3%; for 10–29 days, 5%; and if returned 9 days or less in advance, the fee will reach 10% of the fare.

For example, with a ticket price of 5,000 rubles, a refund less than 10 days in advance will cost the passenger 500 rubles instead of the current 3.70 rubles.

The new rules apply only to tickets purchased from December 1. For tickets purchased up to and including November 30, the current fixed fee will remain.
