Azimut Company (part of Rostec) has installed the ILS 2700 instrumental landing system at Surgut Airport, which serves over 2 million passengers annually. This was reported by Rostec's press service.

How it works

The complex transmits information to the aircraft about its distance from the runway, deviation from course, and glideslope during approach. This helps the crew accurately guide the aircraft to the runway when visual cues are insufficient.

The equipment will ensure safe approaches in conditions of low visibility and difficult weather. This is especially relevant for a major northern air hub: winter here lasts seven months, and low temperatures and snowfalls can complicate flight operations.

The external equipment of the system is designed for operation at temperatures down to -50 °C. All equipment has redundancy: components automatically replace failed ones, so local failures do not affect the operation of the entire complex.

ILS 2700 is already in operation at Moscow airports, St. Petersburg, Sochi, as well as in Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Abkhazia. The system has passed tests in challenging locations such as Sabetta in Yamal, Iturup in the Kuril Islands, and Khatanga in Taimyr.
