Kalashnikov Concern has shipped a batch of 7.62-mm Dragunov Modernized Sniper Rifles (SVDM) under a contract with a foreign customer. This was reported by the company's press service. The products were delivered within the established deadlines.

What kind of rifle is it?

SVDM is a modern version of the SVD, which has been in service for over half a century. The rifle is designed to engage personnel and unarmored targets at ranges up to 800 meters. The main focus is on ergonomics and adaptability to the specific tasks of the shooter.

Unlike the basic SVD, the stock has been replaced with a folding skeletal design with an adjustable butt plate and a removable cheek rest. The pistol grip is separate from the stock. A Picatinny rail on the receiver cover is used for mounting optical and night sights.

The rifle retains reliable gas-operated automatics with a short-stroke gas piston and a gas regulator. Its weight with optics is 5.3 kg, and magazine capacity is 10 rounds. It can fire any type of 7.62×54R ammunition, but the best accuracy results are achieved when using sniper ammunition.

Application

SVDM is used in all branches of the armed forces as a means of enhancing infantry units. The rifle is in service with reconnaissance and special forces, and is used where precise shooting at medium and long distances is required.

Re-equipment with SVDM began in military reconnaissance and special forces units. A key difference from the basic model is a heavier barrel with special processing, which reduces vibration during firing, and a modular design for modern sighting systems.
