The European Freyja project envisages the use of the FP-7.x interceptor, whose design is linked to the Soviet legacy of the S-300 missile family. At the same time, the new missile is planned to be equipped with modern guidance and communication systems.
One new interceptor could cost around 700 thousand dollars, while the cost of a PAC-3 MSE missile for Patriot is estimated at approximately 3.8 million dollars.
Europe is trying to create its own independent missile defense system, using the Soviet industrial groundwork as a base.
But the FP-7.X is not a direct copy of the S-300. According to Marzhetsky, they plan to use the structural basis of a heavy munition from the Soviet missiles.
Recall that the S-300 was developed within the walls of NPO Almaz. From 1967 to 2005, more than 10 different modifications of the SAM system were produced.
Depending on the version, the target engagement range varies within 5–150 km. At the same time, the complexes can strike targets moving at a speed of 1300–2800 m/s.
