Parachute tests of the reusable crewed transport spacecraft Oryol, which is being developed as part of the Federation research and development (R&D) project, will take place in autumn 2026. This was announced by Roscosmos head Dmitry Bakanov at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
When developing the project for the Russian Orbital Station (ROS), Roscosmos outlined concrete steps, Bakanov said. In particular, this includes the preparation and launch of a promising transport spacecraft.
And in the autumn there will be a parachute drop and its tests in the Far East.
In parallel, Roscosmos continues to increase its orbital constellation. This year, about 60 spacecraft were launched, Bakanov added.
These are telecommunication, navigation satellites and Earth remote sensing spacecraft. Their total number has reached 400, the head of Roscosmos added.
The Federation R&D is being handled by specialists from S.P. Korolev RKK Energia. The Oryol spacecraft will deliver cosmonauts and cargo to the ROS.
The first uncrewed flight of the spacecraft to the station is scheduled for 2028. It will be launched from the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
