The Lada X-Cross 5, which most Russian buyers never saw in regular car dealerships, has reappeared on the secondary market. One of these rare crossovers is now being offered for over 2 million rubles, and the mileage of the listed car is 10,800 km.

In total, 170 such vehicles were assembled in 2023 at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg from Chinese car kits. The model ultimately did not go into free sale.

The X-Cross 5 was based on the Chinese FAW Bestune T77. In the Russian version, the car received the Lada brand, front-wheel drive, a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 160 horsepower, and a 7-speed robotic gearbox.

Project Started in 2023

The first X-Cross 5 rolled off the St. Petersburg assembly line on June 17. Further localization of the car and plans to start sales were discussed. But the project did not reach full launch.

FAW did not continue cooperation with AvtoVAZ on the production of the X-Cross 5, after which the project was closed. According to unconfirmed reports, an agreement could not be reached with the Chinese side on a number of nuances of model localization. Some of the assembled cars remained with AvtoVAZ and its partners.

The Crossover Story Continues

The company is now preparing for serial production of the Lada Azimut — a crossover that Lada itself calls the first new crossover in its lineup in almost three decades. Unlike the X-Cross 5, the Azimut was developed by Russian specialists on its own Vesta platform.

At the start of production, the Lada Azimut will receive Russian gasoline engines with volumes of 1.6 and 1.8 liters, which will work with both manual and automatic transmissions. A manual and an automatic transmission will work in conjunction with them. For the 1.8-liter engine, the 21179 EVO engine with an automatic transmission, which is already used on the Lada Vesta, is utilized.
