Shvabe Holding (part of Rostec) handed over an AIVL-D artificial lung ventilator to the Yekaterinburg Zoo in honor of its 96th anniversary. The development is planned to be used for veterinary care for the first time.

Its light weight and intuitive interface with prompts will allow the device to be used for emergency animal care directly in enclosures and the zoo's veterinary unit during operations. In addition, the development should help in emergency cases.

What AIVL-D can do

AIVL-D is the first ventilator in Russia with a home use mode. It monitors the animal's condition during lung ventilation and analyzes the dynamics of indicators. If there are deviations from the set parameters, the software triggers an alarm.

All indicators are stored in the device's memory for up to one year and can be transmitted via the Internet. Veterinary specialists will be able to use this data to assess the dynamics of animal conditions and maintain treatment history.

The device weighs 5 kg and, thanks to its built-in battery, can operate autonomously for several hours. Graphic, text, and voice prompts simplify working with the device outside a professional medical institution.

Svetlana Prilepina, director of the Yekaterinburg Zoo, reminded that the Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant has repeatedly helped the zoo's veterinarians. According to her, the company's medical equipment has saved animals many times.
