Bashkiria's deepest lake, Yaktykul, has been cleared of excessive aquatic vegetation, the republic's government press service reported. The "Clean Yakty-Kul" campaign was carried out by the republic's Ministry of Natural Resources, the Abzelilovsky District administration, and "Bashneft" as part of the national project "Environmental Well-being".

Canadian elodea covered 40 hectares of the water area. The plant aggressively displaces local flora, alters the hydrological regime, and increases the risk of fish kills due to organic decomposition. For the cleanup, "Bashneft-Dobycha" provided domestic amphibious vehicles with suspended pontoons. The equipment mowed vegetation in the water column, collected it, and transported it to the shore. Simultaneously, volunteers cleared 2.5 hectares of the coastal area and removed 12 cubic meters of garbage.

Lake Yaktykul is a hydrological natural monument. Valuable fish species inhabit it: peled, whitefish, and the southern stickleback. In the future, scientists will consider using biological preparations and stocking with herbivorous species. The accumulated experience is planned to be scaled to other reservoirs in the republic.
