In Brest, engineers from ZAO “MAZ-MAN” restored the Soviet “Volga” hydrofoil boat (project 343). The vessel was presumably built in 1981 at the Gomel Shipyard and Ship Repair Plant.
The hydrofoil boat was assigned to the Brest river port. For more than 15 years, no one had used it. The port management decided to de-conserve the vessel.
A global reconstruction was ahead. The boat was completely disassembled. The old wiring was replaced, the engine and steering were overhauled, and consumables were replaced. The hull was cleaned, welded, and painted.
A new windshield and torpedo were installed on the boat, Dron added.
The main difference of project 343 vessels is the use of light and durable aluminum-magnesium alloys. The bow and stern foils are made of stainless steel.
