Russian servicemen have started using special multi-bullet ammunition against drones. Military expert Yury Knutov spoke about the design of the munition and explained why such cartridges are primarily designed to combat small UAVs.
According to the expert, the elements of the separating bullet spread out in flight and rotate like a propeller. Due to this, the shooter has a better chance of hitting a small maneuvering target than when using conventional ammunition. The design was created with the expectation of use against UAVs in conditions where a serviceman might not have a shotgun at hand.
Our specialists have made bullets that separate into several parts, which are used against drones. You just need two magazines, one loaded with regular bullets, the other with these special multi-bullets.
Knutov explained the appearance of such ammunition by a practical task: a serviceman fighting drones does not always have a shotgun at hand. The multi-bullet allows using a regular assault rifle, equipped with special cartridges, for this task.
The expert separately assessed the possibility of using multi-bullets against personnel. According to him, body armor reduces the penetrating effect of a separating bullet, and hitting an unprotected part of the body in combat conditions requires accurate aiming. Therefore, the main purpose of the ammunition remains to increase the probability of hitting small aerial targets.
At the same time, this is not about a fundamentally new design for Russian small arms. In April, "Pervy Tekhnichesky" reported on tests of a 5.45-mm multi-bullet cartridge developed by the Kalashnikov Concern. At that time, the company stated that the elements of the munition hit batteries, electronic boards, and power elements of UAVs. The new cartridge retains the standard format of a 5.45-mm munition and can be used with a standard AK-12 magazine. The tests involved firing both single shots and bursts.
