Moscow engineer Vladimir Ryzhkin has patented a method for repeatedly starting a diesel engine, which allows restoring the power unit's functionality with completely discharged batteries and no compressed air in the starting receiver.

The paradox of the solution is that a small gasoline engine with a manual starter is proposed to start the diesel engine. After it starts, the generator begins to charge the standard batteries, and the compressor driven by the same engine simultaneously pumps air into the receiver. When the pressure reaches 8–10 bar, the accumulated energy is sufficient for the diesel engine's pneumatic starter to operate.
The scheme solves two problems that arise when the standard starting system fails. Charged batteries ensure the operation of the electric oil priming pump, which pumps the lubrication system before starting, and the compressor restores the supply of compressed air.
The key difference of the development from emergency systems with pyrotechnic cartridges is its reusability. After starting the diesel engine, the gasoline engine can be stopped, and the system returned to normal operation; if necessary, the starting cycle can be repeated.
Only liquid fuel is required for the autonomous unit to operate, while the starting of the gasoline engine itself does not depend on electricity and is performed by a rope starter.
The patent is intended for diesel engines of trucks, special wheeled and tracked vehicles, as well as stationary diesel generators.
