The first 5G networks have already been launched in Russia, but iPhone owners cannot use them yet. The Ministry of Digital Development is discussing with Apple the possibility of enabling support for the fifth generation of communication on the company's smartphones, said the head of the department, Maksut Shadayev.

We are negotiating with Apple, discussing the possibility of connecting 5G on iPhone.

The first 5G networks started operating in Russia last week. The Ministry of Digital Development then reported that at the first stage, the new communication would be available to users of Android smartphones. The possibility of connecting 5G on iPhone depends on Apple's decision.

The problem is related to the settings for supporting Russian operators. IT expert Vladimir Zykov previously explained that Apple has not yet officially listed 5G among the supported functions of Russian telecom operators.

To enable such a feature, the company will need to add or update the operator configuration after successful testing of iPhone operation in Russian fifth-generation networks.

Currently, 5G has already been launched in 16 cities of Russia and is available to 10 million subscribers. By the end of the year, the authorities are working on launching the network in 50 more cities.
