The 240-mm self-propelled mortar 2S4 "Tyulpan" is capable of leaving craters up to three meters deep after impact. This was stated by the machine's crew commander with the call sign Cherny, whose words are quoted by the newspaper "Krasnaya Zvezda".

"Tyulpan" uses 240-mm ammunition designed to hit targets in fortified structures. According to the serviceman, the mortar's power is in demand in situations where the capabilities of the 152-mm self-propelled gun "Giatsint" are insufficient.
Ammunition weighing 130 and 230 kg is used for "Tyulpan". A conventional projectile hits targets at a range of up to 9 km, while a 230 kg rocket-assisted projectile increases the firing range to 20 km. When a heavy projectile hits the ground, a crater up to three meters deep can form.
The 240 mm caliber makes "Tyulpan" one of the most powerful domestic self-propelled mortars. Its ammunition is primarily designed to hit protected objects where not so much firing range is required, but rather a high destructive power of a single shot.
