MegaFon launched a 5G network in Yekaterinburg using Russian equipment. It is deployed at the site of the International Youth Festival in "Yekaterinburg-Expo" and will operate during the event.

The network is based on Yadro 5G-Ready platform base stations. The connection operates in the n79 band, and MegaFon subscribers with 5G-enabled smartphones do not need to register in advance or change device settings.

The network is intended to provide connectivity for festival participants, organizers, and volunteers, including assisting with navigation, coordination, and the transfer of large volumes of data directly at the venue.

MegaFon notes that the launch demonstrates the readiness of domestic equipment to work with fifth-generation networks. Yadro added that the telecom platform was initially designed with a view to the further development of mobile communication standards.
