August became the most successful month for the car loan market since October 2025. Banks issued 116.3 thousand car loans totaling 183.7 billion rubles. Over the month, the volume of issuances increased by 11.2%, and the number of loans by 10.4%. Demand was influenced by increased interest in electric and diesel cars, as well as the expectation of an increase in the recycling fee. This is evidenced by data from the analytical company Frank RG and the Avtostat agency.

The average car loan amount remained almost unchanged. In August, it increased by 0.7% to 1.58 million rubles. In total, from January to August 2026, banks issued car loans totaling 1.244 trillion rubles. This is 28.9% more than in the same period a year earlier.
Sber expects the positive trend to continue. The bank pays special attention to lending for used cars and the development of secure digital transactions. In August, Sber recorded a market record for the volume of loans issued for used cars in one month – 20.4 billion rubles.
T-Bank also notes growth in car lending. According to Kirill Bakulin, Head of Car Lending, this segment remains one of the main drivers of the bank's retail lending growth. In August, the dynamics of car loan issuances were close to the market average.
In addition to usual seasonal factors, demand this season was supported by a gradual improvement in lending conditions following the easing of the Bank of Russia's monetary policy.
However, it will be difficult for banks to maintain August's issuance level. By the end of 2026, market participants expect car lending to grow by 15–20% compared to last year. And in 2027, issuance rates are expected to begin to decline due to new Central Bank regulations.
