Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to China have increased more than 50-fold over the past 10 years. Russia has become one of the top three largest suppliers of hydrocarbons to the Asian country. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak during his speech at the Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum, which is being held as part of the EEF in Vladivostok.

According to him, large Chinese corporations participate in Russian projects in the Arctic. The Northern Sea Route is used to transport energy cargo to China, Novak added.
Russian companies also send a large volume of coal to China, said Igor Sechin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rosneft. Currently, China imports about 20% of its coal from Russia. In 2025, almost 90 million tons of fossil fuel were supplied to the Asian country.
China is not trying to replace coal at an accelerated pace.
Coal energy remains fundamental for China, he noted. Last year, the increase in new thermal power plant capacities in the country amounted to 78 GW. Chinese authorities also plan to create new coal-fired generation facilities with a capacity of over 160 GW, Sechin concluded.
