The Lena gold-bearing district (Bodaibo District of Irkutsk Region) has surpassed the Canadian Klondike in terms of gold production. This was announced by Rosnedra head Oleg Kazanov in an interview with RIA "Novosti" on the eve of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
Over 3 thousand tons of gold have been extracted from placers there, and reserves of primary deposits exceed 3.5 thousand tons. In the Klondike, according to various estimates, between 400 and 600 tons were extracted. The difference is 6-9 times in favor of the Irkutsk Region.
The Klondike became a household symbol of the gold rush in the USA, but in terms of actual volumes, the Siberian region has long surpassed it.
In the Bodaibo District, the Svetlovsky gold mining and processing plant has been launched – an enterprise with a design capacity of up to four tons of gold per year, which strengthens the region's position. The Irkutsk Region has replenished its resource base with the Zhidoy apatite-perovskite-titanomagnetite ore deposit, and the total increase in gold reserves in the country for the year amounted to 614 tons. The Lena district remains one of Russia's key gold mining centers.
