Russia has sent India an offer to supply five more divisions of the S-400 "Triumf" anti-aircraft missile system. The Indian Ministry of Defence has already received the documents and is currently reviewing them. The preliminary cost of the new contract is estimated at over 50,000 crore rupees (about $5.8 billion).

This is a continuation of the S-400 procurement program initiated by the two countries in 2018. Under the original agreement, India ordered five divisions of the system. Four of them have already been delivered to the customer, and the delivery of the fifth is expected in November 2026.

After receiving the Russian proposal, the parties will be able to discuss the cost, terms, and other conditions of the future contract. If the agreement is signed, deliveries of the new systems could begin approximately three years later.

The new systems are planned to be used to expand India's multi-layered air defense system. It is assumed that additional S-400s will be deployed in the eastern and western directions. After the completion of both contracts, the number of S-400 divisions in the Indian Air Force could increase to ten.

In parallel, India is increasing its stock of missiles for the already received systems. The country plans to acquire more than 280 S-400 munitions.
