Four presumably Algerian Su-30MKA fighters, accompanied by an Il-78 tanker aircraft, flew in formation over Niger's capital, Niamey. The flight took place shortly after an attempted mutiny in the city and became a notable signal of support for the Nigerien authorities from Algeria.

The fighters were alongside the tanker, which allows combat aircraft to perform long flights at a significant distance from the airfield.

The appearance of Algerian aviation occurred after events in Niamey on the night of August 28-29. According to Russian and international sources, a group of servicemen attempted to take control of facilities in the capital area, including military base 101.

Nigerien authorities stated that the mutiny was suppressed. Algeria was one of the first to publicly express support for Niger's leadership.

The choice of Su-30MKA and Il-78 for the flight is particularly notable from a technical perspective. The Su-30MKA is a heavy two-seat multirole fighter based on the Su-30MKI family. Algeria is one of the largest operators of this modification. The aircraft is capable of performing long-range missions, and the Il-78 extends the capabilities of the aviation group through in-flight refueling.
