Developers from Kaluga, Valery Kvashennikov and Alexander Malyshev, have created an unusual two-stroke axial engine. The mechanical energy of the pistons in it is used not only to create thrust or drive, but also to generate electricity directly inside the engine.

Reversible linear generators are built into the casing. Their armatures are connected to the reciprocating elements of the structure and equipped with permanent magnets based on Nd-Fe-B. As the cylinders move, they should convert part of the mechanical energy into electrical energy.

The engine has two opposing stepped cylinder groups, spherical pistons, and separated combustion chambers with Laval nozzles. The bottoms of the working cylinders are simultaneously used as pistons of a hydraulic pump connected to a hydraulic turbine.

The design includes 2 catalytic chambers with steel cylinders and granulated nickel. Methane is supplied to them, and exhaust products are directed through collectors back to the combustion chambers.

For engine startup, magnetic intake valves operate with permanent magnets. Through this, the developers aim to abandon part of the traditional gas distribution mechanics.
