A laser aerial monitoring system has been implemented at a field in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, designed to control infrastructure in permafrost conditions. Gazprom Neft uses this technology to detect the slightest changes in the position of structures. Thanks to improved data processing, measurements are now carried out ten times faster.

The technology is designed for facilities located on permafrost soils. In Yamal, the stability of these soils is directly related to the reliability of the infrastructure: oil and gas facilities here are installed on pile foundations and equipped with thermoregulators that protect the permafrost from heating.

Aerial laser scanning generates data on the spatial position of structures. Then the system automatically compares the obtained information with a digital model of the object's design position. The analysis also takes into account the landscape condition and soil temperature.

Algorithms detect deviations in structures and allow for faster assessment of their condition. According to the company, the use of the system reduces the measurement time by 10 times.

Gazprom Neft reported that aerial scanning has become part of a comprehensive permafrost monitoring system. It is designed to assess the state of Arctic infrastructure throughout the entire life cycle of facilities and to select solutions for maintaining their reliability.
