A Russian portable laser system with a power of 1 kW was tested for remote neutralization of booby traps and other explosive objects. The system was shown in the “Voennaya Priemka” program on the “Zvezda” TV channel: the operator can work with it manually or control the system remotely, being at a distance of up to 50–100 m from a dangerous object.

The laser system is primarily intended for sapper units. Its task is to burn through the casing of a mine or other ammunition with a directed beam and act on the explosive substance inside without a person directly approaching the target.

In the portable version, the power source is placed in the operator's backpack. The emitter itself is designed in a format that allows it to be used as a handheld system. For more effective action, the system can be mounted on a tripod, after which the laser is held at one point for 1–2 seconds.

During the tests, the system acted on the casing of an anti-personnel mine and an old laptop battery. After fixing the emitter on a tripod, the laser beam burned through the mine casing, after which the substance inside ignited. According to "Zvezda", it took several seconds to act on the target, after which the mine continued to burn out.

The developers expect to use the system against booby traps with sensors that react to the approach of a person or equipment. Remote operation allows the sapper not to approach the dangerous object directly and to increase the distance to it up to 100 m.
