Despite similar operational tasks, there are many fundamental differences between the heavy transport aircraft An-124 and Il-76. Nikolai Yatsenko, the current commander of the "Ruslan," spoke about them.

According to him, the Il-76 is more agile and nimble, which requires increased concentration from the crew and readiness for quick actions when wind conditions change.

The difference in control is that on the An-124, the flight engineer is behind the pilots and does not set the engine mode. On the Il-76, he controls the thrust reverser, extends and retracts the mechanization in flight.
