Ultrasonic inspection of welded joints at Atommash has been accelerated threefold. The robotic complex independently moves sensors over the surface of large equipment and inspects areas that are difficult to control manually.
The spider robot is designed to work with complex geometry structures. This is especially important in the manufacture and inspection of equipment for nuclear power plants, including reactors and steam generators. The system is capable of inspecting welded joints up to 30 cm thick.
Ultrasonic inspection allows detecting internal defects in welded joints. The robotic setup ensures the sensor moves along a predetermined trajectory, which helps automate the inspection of hard-to-reach areas.
The technology has become part of Atommash's production robotization program and does not require human involvement. The enterprise is implementing automated systems for various operations related to the manufacture and inspection of equipment for nuclear power plants.
