Over 1 million tons of municipal solid waste have been converted into electricity in a year and a half of operation of the energy recovery plant in Voskresensk. The RT-Invest group enterprise of Rostec generated over 620 million kWh of electricity from waste.

The plant does not accept all household waste, but only waste that has already been sorted and has no potential for recycling. Previously, these residues were mostly sent to landfills. Now they become fuel for electricity generation.

The enterprise uses waste-to-energy technology with waste incineration on a grate. At high temperatures, waste burns, the released heat converts water into steam, and the steam drives a turbogenerator. The generated electricity then enters the common power system.

Special attention is paid to flue gas cleaning. At a temperature of about 1260 °C, dioxins and aromatic compounds are destroyed. After that, nitrogen oxides, acidic components, and heavy metals are removed from the gas stream. At the final stage, bag filters retain fine dust particles and fly ash.

The plant has been operating in Voskresensk since late December 2024 and reached its design capacity in March 2025. Its estimated capacity is about 700 thousand tons of waste per year, and electricity generation is about 520 million kWh per year.
