Rostec unveiled the export-oriented RVV-SDM air-to-air guided missile, revealing its main tactical and technical characteristics. The published information shows that the new product is a development of the serial RVV-SD, while the most modern solutions remain with the new generation R-77M missile. The analysis and comparison of combat weapons were conducted by "Tekhnosfera Rossiya" publication.

According to published data, the RVV-SDM is equipped with a combined active-passive radar homing head. The missile is capable of engaging aerial targets at altitudes from 15 meters to 25 kilometers, including aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles, moving at speeds up to Mach 3, or about 3600 km/h. Increased launch range, a more powerful propulsion system, and improved aerodynamics are also claimed.

Against the backdrop of the export novelty, the serial R-77M missile, also known as "Product 180," appears more technologically advanced. Its existence and the start of serial production were previously widely covered by specialized publications. According to foreign specialized sources, the R-77M received an active radar homing head with an active phased array antenna, which increases the effectiveness of detecting stealth targets and resistance to electronic countermeasures.

In addition, the R-77M is equipped with a dual-mode solid-propellant engine, a new aerodynamic design with X-shaped wings, and an upgraded guidance system. Thanks to these changes, maneuverability and range of application have increased, which, according to foreign sources, reaches about 190 kilometers.

That is why the R-77M remains the most advanced Russian medium-range missile of this class, while the RVV-SDM is primarily aimed at the export market and offers foreign customers an updated, but less technologically advanced alternative.
