The Russian Molniya aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicle is once again in the spotlight after new images emerged showing it carrying an FPV drone mounted on top.
The published materials demonstrate that the FPV drone is placed on the upper part of the Molniya's fuselage and can be launched after the carrier reaches the designated area. This scheme allows saving the quadcopter's battery life while covering a significant part of the route, and also potentially increases the range of its effective use.
The placement of an additional drone transforms Molniya from an independent strike aircraft into a universal platform capable of delivering an FPV drone directly to the point of application. This expands the complex's use scenarios and allows combining the advantages of an aircraft design with the high accuracy of a quadcopter in the final flight segment.
Russian specialists are not for the first time demonstrating the development of the Molniya family. Previously, the aircraft received a simple but effective modernization with a magnetic compass, fixed in the field of view of the onboard camera. Such a solution helps the operator control the flight direction with limited visual orientation without making significant changes to the drone's design.
