The modern T-80BVM tank has undergone a comprehensive modernization that has significantly expanded its combat capabilities. The new version of the vehicle is equipped with modern surveillance tools, an updated fire control system, more advanced communications, and a 1250-horsepower gas turbine engine. Details of the improvements were disclosed by the Uralvagonzavod concern, part of the Rostec state corporation.

Today, the T-80BVM represents a deep modernization of the T-80BV tank, created to meet the requirements of modern armed conflicts. One of the key updates is the multi-channel Sosna-U sighting system. It integrates thermal imaging, television, laser rangefinder channels, as well as a guided missile control system launched through the tank gun channel. This equipment allows for confident detection and engagement of targets at any time of day and in difficult weather conditions.

The main armament remains the 125-millimeter 2A46M-1 smoothbore gun with an increased barrel life. The gun is compatible with a wide range of modern ammunition designed to destroy armored vehicles, long-term fortifications, and personnel.

The vehicle's mobility is provided by a GTD-1250 gas turbine engine with 1250 horsepower. To improve firing accuracy while on the move, the tank was equipped with a modernized weapon stabilizer with a digital control unit. In addition, the T-80BVM is equipped with a modern R-168-25U-2 Akveduk VHF radio station, providing stable secure communication.

Rostec noted that the modernization allowed the legendary T-80 to be adapted to modern requirements, significantly increasing its capabilities for target detection, firing accuracy, mobility, and interaction with other units.
