The nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" was called a ship with "flying radars" due to its unique Ka-31 helicopters, capable of expanding the detection zone for aerial targets. Military Watch Magazine noted the combination of these machines with powerful missile armament and a modern air defense system, including S-400 family complexes.

MWM named the use of Ka-31 helicopters, which act as airborne radar posts, as the main feature of the ship. These machines are equipped with a powerful E-801M "Oko" airborne radar with a rotating antenna and are capable of detecting aerial targets far beyond the capabilities of conventional shipborne surveillance systems.

Thanks to the Ka-31, "Admiral Nakhimov" gains the ability to detect aircraft, missiles, and other aerial objects earlier, transmitting information to the ship group.

MWM notes that after modernization, "Admiral Nakhimov" will become one of the most heavily armed surface ships in the world. The cruiser received updated control systems, new missile armament, and enhanced air defense capabilities.

One of the key elements of the ship's defense is the S-400 family of complexes. Their integration with modern detection systems allows for the creation of a multi-layered defense system with the ability to engage various aerial targets at significant distances.

The uniqueness of "Admiral Nakhimov" lies in the combination of several capabilities at once: it can conduct long-range detection with the help of Ka-31, launch missile strikes, and simultaneously provide protection for the formation from aerial threats.

The day before, "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" reported that, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" will join the Navy by the end of 2026. It also became known that the nuclear cruiser is equipped with 80 strike missiles and 96 anti-aircraft systems.
