The MiG-31 interceptor fighter retains a number of capabilities that are unavailable to the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter. This was stated to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" by Nikolai Chikunov, a design engineer of the 1st category at the A.I. Mikoyan Design Bureau.
According to him, this primarily refers to the combination of high speed and altitude, which allow the aircraft to be used for specific tasks.
Our flagship aircraft, the MiG-31, is far from having exhausted its resources. This applies to high-speed, high-altitude capabilities, including launching various objects into orbit.
Chikunov added that the use of the platform for hypersonic weapons remains a separate area.
In total, the Russian Aerospace Forces have about 150 MiG-31 interceptor fighters in various modifications, foreign analysts have calculated. It should be noted that these combat aircraft are capable of using Kinzhal missiles.
