JSC "Kama", the developer of the Russian electric car "Atom", has patented the car's platform, according to Rospatent data. The documents protect the design of the load-bearing body panels, floor, suspensions, traction electric motor, and the battery located under the floor. Stamped body elements are patented separately.
The platform was initially created as modular – this allows it to be adapted for cars with different wheelbases and body types. In the future, crossovers, minivans, and all-wheel-drive vehicles can be produced based on it. The design is also suitable for hybrid power plants.
The patent documents list 38 authors – 29 Russians and six Chinese. This reflects the participation of Chinese engineers in the project's development, which was previously reported by the Russian Direct Investment Fund.
Earlier, "Vedomosti" reported that the company experienced financial problems. According to the publication, since the end of June 2026, "Kama" had delayed salary payments to employees. According to Artyom Semenov, chairman of the "T1 Cloud" trade union organization, the delays affected almost the entire staff, numbering more than 1250 people. Later, the conflict was resolved. The management explained the situation by a cash gap, but the creditor banks – PSB and VEB.RF – claim that they have fully fulfilled their obligations. The net loss of JSC "Kama" by the end of 2025 increased to 3.15 billion rubles.
