The most vulnerable stage for T-72B3A tank crews in modern combat operations has become movement from the base to the firing position. This was pointed out by Andrey Koshkin, Head of the Department of Political Analysis and Socio-Psychological Processes at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
According to him, masking track marks from reconnaissance drones is especially important here. To counter the latter, he called the new "Arena-M" active protection system effective.
This is a new approach to ensuring crew safety – it protects against anti-tank missiles and drones. Overall, the T-72B3A has superior capabilities compared to [previous] models.
The T-72B3A also received technology that just a few years ago was associated exclusively with advanced artillery systems like HIMARS. We are talking about a digital guidance system for firing from covered firing positions instead of the outdated compass.
The problem with tracks has already begun to be solved on the T-80BVM, where metal parts are being replaced with rubberized elements.
