The advent of the atomic bomb gave a powerful impetus to the development of nuclear medicine (a field of medicine that uses safe doses of radioactive substances for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases). This opinion was expressed by Andrey Timonov, Director of Communications Department of Rosatom State Corporation, at the "Forsage" forum in the Kaluga region.
Annually, we save several hundred thousand people thanks to nuclear medicine, which would have been impossible without the study of the atomic bomb.
According to him, the development of atomic technologies changed the fate of Russia and the entire continent.
Dmitry Chermoshentsev, an employee of the Russian Quantum Center, spoke about the importance of quantum technologies, including for medicine. He expressed confidence that without these technologies, it is difficult to cope with new challenges.
This is the only mechanism that will allow us to find the key to another reality.
Russian scientists use quantum technologies for ultra-precise diagnostics (detection of microtumors), drug development, and personalized medicine (algorithms select targeted therapy based on patient data).
Leading scientific centers of nuclear medicine in Russia are the NMIC of Radiology and the Institute of Nuclear Medicine. In addition to the Russian Quantum Center, quantum developments are also carried out at the Center for Quantum Technologies of Moscow State University and at NUST MISIS.
