Specialists from NII "Polyus" have developed a pulsed pump current source for laser diodes, which is used in solid-state lasers. The utility model solves the problem of parasitic voltage surges that occur when working with inductive loads — this is one of the main reasons for laser diode failure.

In the new design, a controlled voltage limiter is installed between the neutral bus and the damper diode. It includes a comparison circuit and a controlled switch. When the voltage at the low-voltage output exceeds the permissible level, the comparison circuit sends a signal to the switch, which limits the current and protects the elements of the laser system.

According to the developers, this solution reduces the mass and dimensions of the device, as it allows the use of more compact protective components. The reliability of the entire pumping system is also increased. The development can find application in laser systems for various purposes, where precise control of pump current and protection against overvoltages are required.
