The Minsk Tractor Works is modernizing a key section of its foundry production: in workshop No. 1, outdated open-type coke cupola furnaces will be replaced with modern Chinese-made induction units. The upgrade is expected to increase metal melting efficiency and make production more energy-efficient.
Foundry production is one of the main elements of the enterprise's technological chain, as it is here that metal blanks are formed for the further manufacture of tractor components. The transition to induction furnaces will allow abandoning the old technology using coke and moving to more precise control of the melting process.
The modernization of the foundry direction continues the program of updating the plant's production facilities. In recent years, MTZ has implemented several projects aimed at reducing fuel consumption and increasing automation.
One such project was the introduction of automatic disc cutting machines in the forging shop for billet preparation. The new equipment replaced the cutting technology with preliminary gas heating on press shears.
In addition, in foundry production No. 3, a thermal furnace with an automatic gas supply control and regulation system was modernized. This solution provides annual savings of more than 250 tons of fuel.
