Power unit No. 1 of the Kalininsk NPP will be taken out for scheduled major repairs, during which specialists will perform more than 12 thousand various operations, replace nuclear fuel, diagnose key equipment, and implement modernization measures.
The work will be carried out according to the approved schedule at the first power unit of the Kalininsk NPP, which is part of the Rosenergoatom concern and Rosatom's electric power division.
During the repair campaign, specialists will perform maintenance of the reactor plant and turbogenerator equipment. An inspection of the metal condition of the main elements of the power unit and diagnostics of the heat exchange tubes of two out of four steam generators will also be carried out.
Special attention will be paid to equipment modernization. The planned eight technical measures are aimed at increasing the reliability of the power unit's systems and improving its operational characteristics.
Ruslan Alyev, Chief Engineer of the Kalininsk NPP, said that in addition to the standard set of repair procedures, the power unit will undergo equipment renewal work, which should maintain a high level of safety at the station.
A total of about two thousand specialists will be involved in the repair campaign. After the completion of all operations, the first VVER-1000 power unit will continue to operate normally.
