The Russian "Tor-M2" short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system may attract new buyers in the Middle East. Afghanistan is considering purchasing these short-range air defense systems.
Currently, the "Tor" family of SAM systems is in service with 10 countries worldwide. These include Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Iran, Greece, Egypt, and Venezuela.
Western analysts claimed that the Russian military has about 130 "Tor" series air defense missile systems in service.
The more advanced "Tor-M2" already carries 16 missiles and can eliminate four targets at an altitude of up to 12 km and a range of 16 km. The reaction time to a threat is only 4.8 seconds.
However, the most widespread version is the "Tor-M1" with 8 missiles. It can engage two targets simultaneously at a range of up to 12 km and an altitude of up to 6 km.
