Engineers from Don State Technical University (DSTU) have developed their own control unit for the metal rolling quality control system at Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant (OEMK). The new equipment replaced the German controller previously used on the production line.

The development was created as part of a project for the complete re-engineering of the quality control unit. The new unit processes up to 256 channels in real-time, transmits data via the Profinet network, and operates without stopping production.

DSTU did not specify which German brand was being referred to, but everything points to Siemens. OEMK has historically been modernized with automation from this concern.

Also, the Profinet network was originally developed by Siemens; it is the basic standard for their controller lines.

In Russia, Siemens equipment or parts are successfully import-substituted. Recently, the company "Modern Gas Turbine Technologies" signed a contract for 6-year maintenance of a German turbine at the Nyagan State District Power Plant.
