Telegram short links with the address t.me have stopped working for users worldwide. The reason was a failure in the .me domain zone, whose operator set the serverHold special status for the domain. This means that the record was disabled in the global DNS system and the address stopped being correctly identified on the Internet.
Due to the failure, users cannot open short links to Telegram channels, chats, and profiles through regular browsers. The problem affected the t.me domain specifically and is not related to restrictions by Russian regulators or actions by internet providers.
Some links may continue to open for individual users due to cached DNS records on devices or networks. However, within the Telegram application, link transitions work as usual.
Other service addresses also continue to function, including telegram.me and the official website telegram.org. They use the same domain zone but have not yet encountered a similar shutdown.
The Telegram administration has not reported the reasons for what happened. Experts note that the serverHold status usually means an administrative restriction by the registrar or owner of the domain zone and requires separate access restoration.
