The service life of PS-90A engines, installed on Tu-214 passenger aircraft, is planned to be extended. This will reduce airlines' operating costs and increase the economic attractiveness of the Russian airliner for commercial carriers. The plans were announced by Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov.
According to the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the current engine certificate provides for a number of cycles that is insufficient for intensive operation in civil aviation. That is why the department intends to support efforts to extend the service life of the power plant in cooperation with the United Engine Corporation.
Until this program is completed, ODK will undertake the replacement of engines on aircraft that will be delivered to customers. This mechanism will be provided for in the economics of future Tu-214 supply deals, including a project involving the United Aircraft Corporation, GTLK, and S7 Airlines.
Tu-214 is a Russian medium-haul passenger aircraft designed to carry up to 210 people. After the cessation of Western airliner supplies, the authorities launched a program to expand its production with maximum use of Russian components.
At the end of 2025, the modernized Tu-214 received a type certificate, which paved the way for serial deliveries. The transfer of the first aircraft to commercial carriers is expected in 2027. Red Wings will be the launch operator, to whom 11 aircraft are to be delivered. In addition, orders have already been placed by Yakutia Airlines, and preparations for a major agreement with S7 are ongoing.
