The Msta-S self-propelled howitzer now uses significantly fewer munitions to hit a target after the installation of an automated fire control and aiming system and the use of high-precision Krasnopol shells. An additional effect was provided by its combination with reconnaissance drones, Rostec stated.
Once, a crew managed to hit a tank with just two shots. Therefore, accuracy is not only a tactical advantage but also an economic one.
When evaluating weaponry, it's important to look not only at the cost per shot but also at the full life cycle of the product. The high accuracy of the Msta-S, especially when using "smart" Krasnopol shells, provides a double economic effect in this regard. The first is a reduction in ammunition consumption to hit a single target.
Also, the reduction in ammunition consumption allowed for the preservation of the barrel's resource, the chassis, and the electronics of the howitzer itself. Fewer sighting shots mean less wear, and longer service intervals.
The Krasnopol system, with a range of up to 45 km, consists of a 152 mm guided high-explosive fragmentation shell and a laser designator-rangefinder for guidance.
